2020 IFIE-IOSCO Virtual Global Investor Education Conference

Dear Colleagues: On behalf of the 2020 IFIE-IOSCO Virtual Global Investor Education Conference Programme Committee, thank you for all the work you are doing around the globe to strengthen resources available for financial capability, investor education and resiliency.
We are so sorry we had to delay our 2020 IFIE-IOSCO Conference and adjacent meetings in Madrid hosted by IOSCO due to the global COVID pandemic. Since we have not been together in some time, even as we continue to talk and consult with each other, we have decided to pre-record "Financial Capability at a Cross Roads: Building Financial Resiliency Programmes and Strategies for a Changed World" in an "on-demand" format with curated additional content that we plan to expand and extend to you with opportunities for learnings from now into 2021—until we can all gather in Madrid Spain in September 2021 at the IFIE-IOSCO Conference and adjacent meetings hosted by IOSCO.
The sessions are designed to focus on tips/tools/techniques and ideas for practical organization and implementation of your programmes and strategies highlighting what your feedback has indicated are critical issues for you during this period including types of sessions you say you have benefitted from before such as "Quick Start", Professional Development Workshop, Multimedia showcase and GEM Workshop. Additional sessions are available for regional problemsolving.
We wish to extend special thanks to the Boards, members and Secretariats of partner organizations IFIE and IOSCO for their commitment, leadership and vision and willingness to support the conversion of this event into a virtual effort despite many challenges we all are experiencing. We also acknowledge and thank our speakers who have been willing to adapt to multiple formats, sessions and technology in order to help contribute to our goals of helping strengthen you and your implementation of financial capability, resiliency and investor oriented programmes and strategies on the ground.
We are deeply grateful to our primary sponsors, Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (ANBIMA); Financial Industry Regulatory Authority US (FINRA) and Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) who also graciously hosted our 10th Anniversary Conference in 2018. Additional in kind contributions have come from Central Bank of Curacao en Sint Maarten and CFA Institute.
Finally I want to thank the members of the 2020 IFIE-IOSCO Virtual Global Investor Education Conference Programme Committee for their commitment to helping create a thoughtful set of programme sessions and to the staff of IFIE and IOSCO for their dedication and hard work to help ensure that the vision of our Committee in these challenging times is realized.
Members of the 2020 Committee are Cecile de Wit of IOSCO; Robert Stammers of CFA Institute; Errol Cova of Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten; Uttam Bagri of BBF Bombay Stock Exchange Brokers Forum (host of 2022 IFIE-IOSCO Conference and adjacencies in Mumbai India); Gerri Walsh of FINRA/FINRA Foundation; Douglas Melville of Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman (CIFO) Office, Arlene Popplewell-Stephen, Financial Education Consultant and IFIE GEM Workstream Advisor; Kathryn Edmundson of IFIE. Other colleagues from IFIE and IOSCO networks are helping ensure that the sessions we produce in late 2020 will have additional substantive extensions and additional learning and engagement opportunities for you by topic and/or region into 2021, which will then be pipelined into the work we do together toward the 2021 IFIE-IOSCO Global Investor Education Conference and adjacent meetings in Madrid in September 2021 hosted by IOSCO.
We thank you for your commitment, engagement and leadership —and for continuing to work over these very difficult months. You inspire all of us. Stay safe, everyone.
Best regards,
Lori J. Schock

We plan to roll out mid December 2020 a virtual GEM Workshop of programming based on your feedback since we started these efforts in 2017. In 2021, we will invite you to join us in smaller work stream groups to talk about these issues and develop additional tools, tips, ideas and for programmes and strategies that address some GEM Financial Resiliency/Capability/Investor Education needs—including as we learn even more continuing to work through this global pandemic. These efforts will give us even stronger paths forward until we can see each other again in Madrid in September 2021!

About Us
IFIE (The International Forum for Investor Education) and IOSCO (The International Organization of Securities Commissions) are partnering virtually for the 11th time in 2020 on this annual event.
CONFERENCE PARTNERS
IOSCO – The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), established in 1983, is the acknowledged international body that brings together the world’s securities regulators and is recognized as the global standard setter for the securities sector.
IOSCO develops, implements, and promotes adherence to internationally recognized standards for securities regulation, and is dedicated to enhancing investor protection and promoting investor confidence.
IOSCO’s membership regulates more than 95% of the world’s securities market and is one of the few international organizations that includes all the major emerging market jurisdictions within its membership.
IOSCO believes the need for investor education and financial literacy has never been greater than it is today. In response to these challenges, the IOSCO Board established Committee 8 on Retail Investors in 2013. The Committee’s primary mandate is to conduct IOSCO’s policy work on retail investor education and financial literacy. Its secondary mandate is to advise the IOSCO Board on emerging retail investor protection matters and conduct investor protection policy work as directed by the IOSCO Board.
